RADIO SYMPOSIUM LAPUBLIKA

October 28th – Tabakalera, Dabadaba and othe spaces of Donostia-San Sebastián
Following on from the 2015 edition, LaPublika will take the format of an international radio-symposium taking place in Donostia / San Sebastian on 28th October 2016: 15 hours of live broadcast open to the public with conversations, music, performances, sound installations, activities in the city and with international connections. Everything will revolve around the capacity of art to contribute to creating the public sphere. This question will be addressed by means of debate and by considering artistic projects as an example of the different possibilities in which art can be formalized to develop a critical gaze on reality.

 Artistic research laboratory on public sphere

LaPublika is a programme of activities concerning the way artistic practices construct the public sphere. We understand public sphere to be spaces considered to be public (the street, the square, the city), such as the internet or the communications media, and the mechanisms with which we participate in managing what is common (language, rites, norms, the aesthetic of collective processes). At a time when new social and civic paradigms are arising, LaPublika seeks to provide a framework of work and reflection upon those processes.

Focussed on the languages of art, LaPublika also deals with other fields of knowledge and particularly the social sciences, town planning, forms of pedagogy and feminism. The gender perspective and critical pedagogies, both regulated and informal, thread through the entire programme. In addition to the presence-based programme, all the activities have their version in podcast format on LaPublika’s radio-web, the central hub of the project, which is also backed up by programming involving interviews, radio spots and sound pieces.

LaPublika works together with two other work groups. On the one hand, the Mediation Area of Tabakalera coordinates the group formed by Leticia Aristi, Mireia Baz Mangana, Koldo Tellería and Maider López. On the other hand, consonni and the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) coordinate de group formed by Juan Pablo Ordúñez Martínez ‘MawatreS’, Andrea Estankona and Josefina Roco Sanfilippo.

LaPublika is a project directed and coordinated by consonni, produced by San Sebastian 2016, European Capital of Culture and Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture with the collaboration of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UPV/EHU, Azkuna Zentroa and Dabadaba and the support of Hotel Silken Amara Plaza, Bilbao Ekintza, EHUKultura (Directorate of Event Programming and University Promotion Bizkaia, UPV/EHU) and the Regional Council of Bizkaia.
