Again, again(st)

Place and date:

Festival BAD en Bilborock, Bilbao, 2013

2013. Performance piece for BAD festival. Bilborock, Bilbao.

In Again, Again(st) a dual practice is involved. On one hand, there is theatrical practice, because Again, Again(st) is the theatre piece that will occur within a particular space. On the other, exhibition practice, as Again, Again(st)  is also an art installation deployed in the very same space. The purpose is to show a conflict between what functions in one way and what functions in another. No marriages, romances, happily reconciled relations, romantic encounters among multifunctional practices. No, none of that. Taking practices into struggle, not ignoring their violences.

Again, Again(st), as a theatre piece, lacks a plot. Both piece and installation emerged from a previous work around the text “The author as producer”, by Walter Benjamin.

There is, however, a kind of storyline context: B*, a big tycoon, believes that the image society has of him does not match what he sees every day in his mirror (strange as it may seem, he sees “love”). So (strange as it may seem) he decides to set up a contemporary art centre, because his advisors assure him there is no better way of getting a facelift.
