2007. The zombie as metaphor, taking the form of a walk and a collective derive. Barakaldo

The Barakaldo Zombiewalk is part of the project “Quédense dentro y cierren las ventanas”, inspired by George A. Romero's film “Dawn of the Dead”, with several participatory activities taking place in Barakaldo during the course of 2008, in which the artists Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum, in collaboration with consonni, investigate the role of commercial centres and shopping malls in the context of Barakaldo.

Zombie seminar
A seminar on consumer society, through zombie movies, within the context of the Barakaldo municipality. 
The seminar took place on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 December 2007, in the Clara Campoamor Cultural House of Barakaldo (Gernikako Arbola s/n). Invited to provide a theoretical framework for the project are the following guests: Belgian artist Laurence Rassel, cinema critic and writer Jordi Costa, philosopher and analyst of consumer society Jaime Cuenca Amigo, and the organizers of Zombie Pride 07 (R.P. Sephiroth and Gorka Arranz). There will also be a screening of the film Dawn of the Dead (1978).
The Zombie Seminar by Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum and consonni with the colaboration of Barakaldo's Culture Houses and the support of Barakaldo's city hall (Deparment of Culture) and Provincial Council of Bizkaia.


Zombie walk
A zombie walk is an event where the people who take part dressed like zombies strolling in a melancholic revolution without leaders no sense of direction. Is a kind of flashmob, an action in a public place that breaks the conventional use of the space.
