SEMINAR  How the public sphere is constructed through artistic practice and critical pedagogies

- sesion 2:

Aida Sanchez de Serdio -
What/who are public in the public sphere? Pedagogy, collaborative artistic practice and art institutions.
The definition of the public sphere is a conflictive ground, for what is considered as public, who can take part in it and what language is considered legitimate have all been determined by processes of social and cultural inclusion and exclusion. Starting from particular examples, the event will address how those processes operate in relation to pedagogies, collaborative artistic practice and art institutions.

Aida Sánchez de Serdio is an educator and researcher in the fields of visual culture, education and collaborative artistic practice. She has taught at the Fine Arts Faculty in Barcelona and, currently, she is an advisor at the Education and Public Department of the Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Centre in Madrid.

Irene Amengual - Cartografiem-nos: pedagogies and networking beyond the museum

This talk will be the presentation of Cartografiem-nos, a long-term education program on contemporary art that will work with elementary schools from around the place. As a starting point, the project will be working on the pedagogies developed and the collaborative question, that is, what is it at stake when working without a previously set agenda, in order to construct education based on the local context and the public sphere, working together with teachers and social agents. Not only the potentialities but also the conflicts and problems that arise from the experience will be examined.

She works in the fields of educational development, training and public programs of the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani museum, in Palma de Mallorca. She holds a PhD in Artistic Education, a degree in Fine Arts (Universitat de Barcelona) and a master's in Museums and Galleries in Education (University of London). At the end of 2015, she will publish the book A ras del suelo: La educación en museos como encrucijada de discursos, pedagogías, experiencias compartidas y mucho más, by the publishing house TREA Ediciones: Gijón.

She works in the fields of educational development, training and public programs of the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani museum, in Palma de Mallorca.
